KUCHING: Members of Sarawak Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) who are diploma holders will have the opportunity to participate in a modern technology agriculture training programme which SABERKAS is managing in collaboration with Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Its President Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg said that the Agriculture Department centre near Kota Samarahan had been identified as the training venue for the programme that was related to agriculture biotechnology.
Johari said they would also develop an incubator programme in the training centre to expose the participants to the actual field training They would have to undergo the training programme for six to 10 months.
He added: “SABERKAS also has plans to implement a pilot project using waste (compost) to produce bio-gas near Kubah Ria in Gita.The commodity (gas) will be channelled to foodstall operators in the market (Kubah Ria).
He, however, did not disclose the cost of the project and other details when reporters asked him after he chaired the first SABERKAS Committee meeting here yesterday.
At the press conference, Johari also gave the media a preview of SABERKAS’ new corporate batik attire, with its traditional colour – yellow, which was modelled by Organising Secretary Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi for the men and Samar iang Assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali for the women.
