Low income Households

LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS (LIH)

Overview
Despite Malaysia’s recent success in poverty reduction, there are still over 100,000 households classified as poor in the eKasih database today.  The achievement so far has been reducing 44,643 extreme (hardcore) poor households to zero percent at the end of 2010. Several other measures will also be implemented to improve the living standards of the low-income households (LIH) which do not fall under the categories of poor or extreme poor.
To achieve the above, we have committed to:
  • Standardise the definition of low-income groups
  • Implement fast, high-impact initiatives immediately and lay the groundwork for longer-term actions
  • Put enablers in place to ensure the delivery of initiatives
What has been achieved so far
  • Welfare assistance is distributed on the first day of each month (rather than irregularly as before) since 1 September 2009 in Peninsular Malaysia and 1 January 2010 in Sabah and Sarawak.
  • 44,643 households categorised as extreme poor have been reduced to zero percent by 31 December 2010
  • 16,471 households categorised as poor have been removed from poverty
  • The target to train and develop 2,000 women entrepreneurs by the end of 2010 was achieved after 2,000 women completed their training and are now earning more than RM3,500 per month. The overall target is to have 4,000 women entrepreneurs trained by the end of the 2012, which will be done by training another 1,000 in 2011 and another 1,000 in 2012
  • 35,095 units of low-cost homes have been offered for sale to existing Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) tenants at prices well below market value (RM21,500 to RM35,000) and 60,136 houses have been built by Jabatan Perumahan Negara (JPN) for rent to low-income households, of which 49,751 houses have been occupied

    To whom it may concern,
This is just to show how important our PM slogan 'RAKYAT DIDAHULUKAN DAN PENCAPAIAN DIUTAMAKAN'. We the residents of Taman Syn-Syn, Taman Matang Baru and Perumahan BOMBA are at loss as to know that the access to our nearby neighbourhood Taman Yen-Yen and Taman Matang Jaya was recently blocked by erecting the road divider for the construction of dual carriageway at Jalan Matang Baru. This matter was referred to DBKU in October 2012 and the reply by JKR on 6/11/2012 mentioning that "the junction from Jalan Matang Baru to Taman Syn-Syn would thus become a left-in and left-out junction as right turn is no more possible due to the central median. The residents would need to go through the Datuk Abang Kipali roundabout for going to E-Mart area. It is not advisable to have opening in the central median due to road safety reason and this also would affect the traffic flow". We the residents welcome most the development being done to the road by having dual carriageway, however to the extent we are dissatisfied with the way the carriageway being done by eliminating our only access to the roundabout and thus we the resident would have to drive through the carriageway toward Datuk Abang Kipali roundabout located 2.4 kilometer away just to go to e-mart which was only 650 meter from our residential area. For your information, many of the residents are sending their children to SK Petra Jaya, SRK Matang Jaya and SMK Matang Jaya which was located at Taman Matang Jaya Housing area or 1.1 kilometer by using the Jalan Syn-Syn access to the rounabout. With the blockade of the access it will take around 1/2 hr to reach the schools since the road is jammed prone every morning. We would like your goodself to assist the residents affected to raise their concern and to resolve the matter arised in amicable way by mean of getting the residence grievance be noted by the YB's or those who are relevant. As advised by JKR through their reply to Talikhidmat "For improvement, it is advisable to have another link road to the roundabout and this is under the development planning of the council/L&S". Please assist us to ease our problem and your attention is very- very much aprreciated.
    Thank you .
